Wake Up, Make Something
Join Maggie’s one-day Halloween themed fake cake decorating workshop at Blue Rooster Art in Pasadena. The focus of this workshop is to teach basic cake decorating techniques using traditional pastry tubes, piping nozzles, and other tools. It'll be a great introduction to acrylic mediums and their multitude of possibilities in art making. This class will provide an invaluable skill set to artists looking to add new form and texture to their art as well as set decorating, prop designing, and food styling.
We’ll be using Golden’s Light Molding Paste as frosting and mini cardboard coffin boxes and recycled materials, like bottles, and cans, as our cakes. Maggie will walk you through the process of preparing your surface, designing your fake cake, and how to use different piping nozzles. Together we’ll practice piping techniques, decorate our fake cakes, and go over cleaning methods. You’ll be able to use the techniques you learn here to frost pretty much anything you can imagine - canvases, wood panels, rocks, mirrors, purses, jewelry boxes, and so much more! And of course, you can always use these same methods with buttercream frosting on an edible cake.
Each student will be able to frost two mini coffins and one potion bottle. You are welcome to take them home the same day or, since they will take a couple of days to dry, you’re free to pick them up later to your convenience.
Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring decorating ideas and questions!
